Mad River Community Hospital is a small, 78-bed acute care medical facility that is locally owned, independently operated, and committed to providing the best care for our patients. We offer a welcoming workplace where you’ll enjoy working with our friendly, collegial staff. The hospital is nestled between the redwoods and the Pacific Ocean, just minutes away from a river, bay, beaches and forests. Arcata is an open-minded and welcoming small city, valuing diversity, culture, art, entrepreneurship, and the protection of its beautiful natural environment. Arcata is just 90 miles south of the Oregon border and 275 miles north of San Francisco, and is known for clean ocean air, moderate temperatures and beautiful landscapes with giant redwoods, flowing rivers and farmlands.
Mad River Community Hospital also provides a wide range of Home Health Services throughout the community, and operates four health care clinics, an occupational health clinic, and three physical therapy/rehabilitation clinics in Arcata, McKinleyville, and Willow Creek. We employ a full-time farmer to manage our fully functioning, 2-acre on-site garden, which provides produce for the cafeteria for staff and patient meals.

Established in 1971, Mad River Community Hospital provides a complete range of acute care inpatient services, including OB, emergency medicine, physical therapy, ICU, med/surg, and radiological services. The 5-bed Emergency Room department is staffed 24 hours a day. The radiology department is equipped with fixed MRI, CT scan, and x-ray.
Mad River also offers a home health care department, outpatient rehabilitation clinics, wound care and hyperbaric oxygen program, five family practice clinics, an orthopedic & sports medecine clinic, an occupational health clinic, and a surgery clinic.
